June 2011 Sébile Competition Winners!

First Place: Congratulations to Tony Robertson with this Atlantic Salmon on the Sebile Koolie..!
Tony Robertson wins a $300 Sébile pack for his full length informative fishing report and great photo also on facebook. Tony was chosen as the winner because, although he forgot to mention it, the fish was caught on very light line, and was considered as an impressive capture by the judges. Tony has also been catching so many fish on sebile lures that he's must have nearly gone commercial! We had some great entries throughout May, and it was very difficult to choose, especially when you throw a 50kg dogtooth tuna into the mix - Congratulations to Richard Barnett on that dogtooth by the way!!
Lure Model: Koolie Minnow ML 76mm
Lure Colour: Amber Fashion (PS)
Tony's Report: This is a 3.85KG cleaned Atlantic Salmon taken from Craigbourne Dam in Tasmania. The fish put up a great account of itself and was aerial for half the fight. Once these fish get their heads down and make a run they are very hard to lift off the bottom. The Koolie Minnow was the undoing of a few fish on this trip. The lure has been placed in the mouth of the fish as I had no one with me to take the photo whilst fishing.

Runner up: Gavin finds some action with the slow deep diving Koolie...
Gavin Miles wins a $100 Sébile pack for a top effort with this great Fingermark on the Koolie Minnow 160LL. Steve was chosen as rnner up because a 7.7kg fingermark is an impressive fish anywhere.
Lure Model: Koolie Minnow 160 LL
Lure Colour: Blue Black Shiner
Gavin's Report: Fishing in 13 metres of water in the bay close to Townsville Qld I landed this 7.7 kg,83cm Fingermark. I purposely purchased the Koolie Minnow 160 LL to land a trophy Fingermark, love it when a plan comes together, thank you Sebile!

Lure of the Month

How to use the Flatt Shad XHSK66. . .

The Flatt Shad 66XHSK is one of the most versatile lures in the Sebile range. The flatt Shad lures have accounted for a huge variety of species in Australian water during testing, from bream, bass, flathead and trout to snapper, jewfish, coral trout and kingfish. The 66XHSK is ideal for snapper, jewfish, flathead big bass, aussie salmon and a variety of shallow water reef species.

The real to life rounded profile of the Flatt Shad produces excited hyper-reactive movements giving the lure a wicked swimming action. Work the lure horizontally with a direct retrieve, vertically jig it, or cast to cover and be amazed at just how good it comes through. Reel it fast for violent vibrations, and then pause for it to suspend in the strike zone. Hang on tight!

The whole secret of the Flat Shad is linked to its hydrodynamic shape, its back cuts the water, then the body shape creates turbulence on both sides and under the belly. This overall instability makes the bait swim even at the slowest retrieve speeds, which is vital for success with many Australian fish, in both fresh and saltwater. The position of the back eye keeps the Flatt Shad under perfect balance. This is critical as this is the reason why this lure, unlike others, can be so gently twitched in a kind of finesse action commonly used for worms or vertical jigging. This motion is so deadly that bream, bass, trout, mulloway and snapper can't resist it!

Pro Team Report - Snapper on Flatt Shads...
Nick Milford talks about his favourite Sebile lures catching Snapper
Waking up this time of year is never an easy task, we're just not built to handle to cold but the chance to get hooked up to a trophy specimen is the reason for all the madness that surrounds Snapper Fishing. A recent trip out to some rubble patches off the sunshine coast saw good showings of Snapper which is a great way to start the season.

The large amount of week-end warriors that are out there can make the fish somewhat timid so it is pretty imperative to get out there early and sound around. The fish will be there but will be weary with all the buzzing around going on above them and trying to get them to eat an artificial lure can be challenging.

The Sebile Flatt Shad 66 extra heavy sinking and the 96 extra heavy sinking are the lures I have been using the most of in my area due to the fact we are fishing relatively deep in 25 meters. So shallow places may see you using the standard Sebile Flatt shad sinking model provided there is not much current just keep an eye on your drifting speed. Going up in size to the Sebile Flat Shad 96 in some areas is necessary for those big Nobbys.

Doing a few drifts is the key to covering ground over patchy reef areas as fish will be spread out, setting up for a drift and casting the Flatt Shad in the direction of the drift allows it to sink down and have a chance of reaching the bottom where a few rips of the rod is all you need once it hits the bottom.

It is important to monitor the sink rate of the lure by letting the line run in between your thumb and index finger in case of an inquiry on the way down which is very common, you can flip the bail arm over and get stuck in before hitting the bottom. This technique worked well for us on this outing and produced some decent Snapper for the table.

This technique should be practiced when using softplatics and other hardbodied lures.

Lure Colour: Natural Dorado (NDD)
Report: I trolled this doggy in 200ft plus off water near Santo, Vanuatu. The fight lasted 35 mins before we boated it. I used a tuf tackle 12000 sniper reel spooled with 100lb braid and 150lb leader, the rod i used was a shimano t-curve deep jig rod. I exclusively only use Sébile lures now due to their unrivalled finish..
Customer fishing report from Clayton Nicholls *Honourable mention!

Lure Model: Crankster 45MR
Lure Colour: Holo Greenie (D9)
Report: My friend Mate and I were out kayaking and landed barra and jacks on the cranksters. I wrote up reports of the day on my blog, by far the accuracy and castablilty of the cranksters made them stand out above any other lure used on the day especially on the light gear.
